SmartCookie turns 1!

A year ago

Exactly one year ago, we launched SmartCookie with one mission: to let language teachers spend their time teaching, not juggling schedules, chasing payments, and wrestling with Excel.

Where it started

SmartCookie started with Martina's own experience. After 9 years in the classroom, she realized she was losing a huge amount of time on tasks that had nothing to do with teaching. She wondered if other independent teachers felt the same, so she started having coffee after coffee after coffee... In person and on video calls, until she'd talked to more than 100 teachers.

The problem

Martina found that teachers were losing about 5 hours a week to admin. Rescheduling a single lesson took 10 minutes on average, and by the end of the month those minutes had turned into hours. The same went for tracking attendance, keeping notes on what happened in each lesson with each student, and managing lesson packs. Oh, the headaches those packs caused! “How many lessons do I have left? Did you get my payment?”

The first yes

Our first subscription came in on launch day. Woohoooooo! The first teacher who trusted us, and who's still cheering us on today.

A year of growing

Since then, SmartCookie has grown with everything you, the people who use it every day, have asked for: simple payment tracking, integrations with Google Calendar, Meet, and Stripe, a booking link, a student portal... and the newest of the new: coordinator and teacher roles, for those who work as a team and manage other teachers.
